Thurs Nov 28th (Chemistry Demonstration wrap up)
Day Plan:
- Finish Project Reflection Survey on Chemistry Demonstrations (if you didn't do submit it yesterday)
- Self-Assess and Hand in 3.1 Reading and Practice using this key.
- Final Revisions to Chemistry Demonstration Project. By way of general feedback for everyone, make sure you researched the specific chemical formula for your compound and can explain the elements that are involved in the reaction. You may also be observing new compounds being created or destroyed. See if you can research enough to find out what those are. I made some comments on the outline with suggested resources.
- Make sure you've included each learning goal in your inquiry questions as written a statement in the document self assessing that goal. Make sure you give a mark and an explanation for each goal
- Use Steve's feedback comments in your doc as a guide to revise you Chemistry Demonstration Inquiry
- Have a peer read your work and use their feedback as a guide to revise inquiry questions
- Final Revisions to Mitosis Projects if you haven't finished yet and make both the image file and the YouTube video are handed in (please upload the image to your NLC folder on drive and share the link, please share the link to your YouTube video).
- Check out The Hour Of Code and let me know if you are interested. You could even dig into some of their sessions and see if you think there's one in particular that you'd enjoy.
- Begin crafting your next question for your next Genius Hour Project

space, a photo by Sweetie187 on Flickr.
Day plan:
- Feedback on Chemistry Demonstration Project (15 min)
- Personal Stories of Exploration (10 min)
- First, take a few minutes to think about a personal story of exploration.
- If you are interested, please share
- Exploration Brainstorm: Read over the prompts in this document and add your ideas to each one. (20 min)
- Check out the outline and see if you can come up with any specific questions for David on the exhibits and artefacts we will be seeing. (5 min)
- Begin searching for your own resources and for exploration missions that interest you personally. Once we form teams for the project you will be able to bring your ideas to our team and narrow it down. I'd recommend starting with the pinboard of resources here. Please comment on the resources section of the outline with any other resources you'd like to see added to list.

- Here's a suggested resources as you start your search for a Chemistry Demonstration: http://www.stevespanglerscience.com/lab/experiments
- Or Steve Spangler's YouTube Channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/SteveSpanglerScience
- We will be asking the Question "Why do Chemicals React the Way they do?" so the first chunk of this project will be to:
- Find a demonstration involving a chemical reaction that you could do in the class with materials available from home or at school.
- Ask some of your own questions about the change that is occuring in the demonstration. Your questions should be related to our driving question "Why do Chemicals React the Way they do?"

Teacher Introduction
Here's the "Teacher Introduction" handout for the first day. This highlights a few of the things I want to talk about by way of an introduction as your get to know me and this class.
We have lots more to talk about as we get into 21st Century Learning, Project Based Learning, Working Collaboratively and Digital Citizenship. These will be discussed in the coming days and weeks.
